This was a combined project with my friends Kees Schaddelee and Des Carpenter, owners of a Victoria business ‘Vittrium’. Vittrium make and install countertops made from 80% recycled glass called Environite. I traveled for a year in a van driving all the way from BC to Costa Rica and back surfing our way along the coast with Des and Kees almost 20 years ago. Bringing our two sustainably minded businesses together seems to be a great fit- together we can make a high quality product that is made from all recycled materials, functional art!
The table top is finished with a satin gloss, not too shiny but perfect with the smooth wood. The table base is made from reclaimed red cedar driftwood with all mortise and tenon traditional joinery. The different colour tones in the wood are echoed in the brown colours of glass in the table top. I made the base with an Arts & Crafts feeling or style as I am often drawn to do. The wood is stained with Landark Natural Oil Finish.
