Three Cedar Coffee Tables

1024 1024 Thuja Wood Art - Reclaimed Cedar Furniture Wood Art Vancouver Victoria Gulf Islands British Columbia

These are three coffee tables I have made, all from old growth red cedar driftwood I have salvaged from around the islands of the Salish Sea in British Columbia, Canada.  I am grateful to find some very nicely coloured cedar on the beach for the tables.  The black colours often come from the wood being stained by metal left in the wood over time.  Reclaimed red cedar can naturally vary in colour from blonde through orange and red to dark purple and black.

Each table top is completely unique because of the variations in the colour pattern.  Two of these tables have shelves and one doesn’t, which doesn’t change the design (only the function) very much.  These tables, like most of the furniture I make, use a floating tenon system with mortises each side of a butt joint.  I have found the Festool Domino joiner is the perfect tool for this.  It makes easy work of the joinery.  They have all been finished with 2 coats of OSMO PolyX oil.
