This is a custom ordered cedar bench I recently made for a client here on Pender Island. It is 6′ long, and made all from salvaged old growth red cedar driftwood. I used all mortise and tenon joinery with an exterior glue to help it last outside. Cedar is so colourful, and you can see many variations in this bench.
The dark stripes in the back of the bench are also red cedar driftwood that has somehow been discoloured, as wood often is when in contact with metals. The bench is finished with Cedar Seal, a new eco-friendly exterior polymer finish which looks promising as a long lasting UV and water repellent. It now resides in a lovely ocean front place for viewing the Orca whales at they go by… I wanna sit there! maybe I’ll get visiting rights…
