This cedar stool was a fun project for a local couple here on Pender
Island. They had approached me wanting a cedar stool to use in the shower and this is what we came up with. The stool is made from all reclaimed old growth red cedar driftwood that I salvaged from local beaches. It is standard seat height at around 17″. I used traditional mortise and tenon joinery for all joints and glued them. The clients had the great idea of cutting a hand hold into the seat for ease of moving the stool. I also carved the seat so that it would be comfortable to sit in. The stool is finished with landark natural oil finish, and then a coating of Cedar Seal, a new product I am using for waterproofing and extending the life of outdoor woodworking (and I guess that includes in the shower as well!) Both of these products are environmentally safe stamped and I recommend them both.
